By: Deborah Martin
Ready, set, go! Race for gold in the terrific sporting musical, Way To Go, a show packed full of fun and fitness. The show features 10 song and dance numbers accompanied by easy to learn choreography.
These performance items are brought to life by 12 leads, a number of supporting characters and chorus groups featuring local kids, the race crowd, cheerleaders and more.
Only two sets are needed for the show: the park and the race track. To create the two sets a simple painted backdrop featuring the sky and other background objects can be used in conjunction with portable items such as fences, flower beds, signs etc. Simply change these small items for each setting to effectively set the scene.
Very topical in these times of concern about childhood obesity and fitness, Way To Go celebrates friendship, courage and living your dreams.

They decide to raise the money by competing for the first place prize in a 20km regional relay. Through their training they battle their lack of experience, cravings for junk food, internal squabbling and a lack of commitment. But as they move closer to the start of the race they begin to mould themselves into a fit and fantastic team.
The whole town is inspired by their efforts and one of the local traders fits them with terrific pink uniforms, leading to the kids dubbing themselves 'The Pink Pacers'! Roy himself is even able to contribute with his mysterious magical powers as the kids go for gold!
The story revolves around the character of Roy Pacer, a kind and thoughtful statue whose place at the local park is under threat. Due to the strange nature of this role an actor needs to be able to maintain stillness and focus for most of their scenes.
Luckily for Roy there is a group of kids attempting to save him. The group is led by Maddie, a studious and feisty character. Theo is the self-appointed and self-opinionated coach of the group. Kat is the peacemaker, Tod is cynical but strong, Jac is just generally likeable and Sal has a rivalry with Maddie. All of these characters call for strong actors, singers and dancers as they are required to lead most of the musical numbers.
There are a number of other lesser but equally important roles featured like 'The Four Bullets' who are the chief rivals of the kids during their race, Bob and Bet who are the two behind Roy's attempted removal, the local townspeople, race officials and Hilary, a kind and elderly lady.
The chorus groups perform during key scenes and include a neighbourhood crowd, cheerleaders, local kids and more.
Here you're able to listen to a small sample of vocal backed music tracks featured in the show.
